Karyne (00:00:07) – Hi fantasy readers. This is Karyne Norton, your fellow book binger, and you are listening to the Finding Fantasy Reads podcast where you can test out a new fantasy story every single week to find your next favorite author.

Last week, you got to listen to the first half of a bittersweet epic fantasy story centered around a young girl and her newly budding magic, and today, you get to hear its ending. It’s written by R.M. Krogman, who loves nature, art, and food, and funnels all of them into her world-building. Her story’s settings span two continents and the sea between, encompassing a diversity of peoples, cultures, and creatures.

She’s even working on a collection of recipes from Midgate, and she loves drawing scenes and characters from the books, although those sketches may never see the light of day. Which makes me sad! I want to see them! She will never apologize for describing a tree, as she finds trees to be fascinating and far more alive than they get credit for. When she’s not writing about Midgate, she’s penning fairy tale retellings, which is something I didn’t know about her. She enjoys mixing familiar pieces from many tales together and may one day reveal to you her tinderbox princess series. Yes, Rebecca, please do.

Stick around to the end or check out today’s show notes to see where you can find more from her, as well as the Kickstarter I just launched this morning. For now, please enjoy Whisperer, Part 2 by R.M. Krogman.

Karyne (00:01:43) –  Whisperer is read by Karyne Norton. Due to copyright, the full transcript of the story cannot be included here.

Karyne (00:30:39) – I hope you enjoyed listening to Whisperer, Part 2, by R.M. Krogman, narrated by Karyne Norton. If you want to read more by Rebecca, go to her website and sign up for her newsletters at rmkrogman.com/join, and you can choose which story to jump into next. I really enjoyed Marked, which introduces you to another character’s backstory from the series. It’s quite a bit darker than Whisperer, but it still has those seeds of hope.

Don’t forget that this story is part of an anthology called Wonder and Dragons, with fantasy short stories written by authors in the Midwest. Once again, I’ll have a link for the anthology in the show notes.

I’d also love it if you checked out my latest Kickstarter, which just launched today. It’s a shift away from fantasy, which may surprise you, but it was actually written before my fantasy books. Well, at least the versions you all know. If you enjoyed Bourne Identity or The Terminator, I think you’ll get a kick out of my time travel thriller, The Things We Can Change. There will be an audiobook version, since I know a lot of you prefer audio, but you can find all your options at tinyurl.com/timetravelthriller. As always, I will have links for all those sites in the show notes.

Thank you all for listening, and happy reading.

Featured Author

RM Krogman

Rebecca M. Krogman is an epic and dark fantasy author from Iowa, U.S.A. Her debut novel Liberation is the first volume of a larger story set in Midgate, a medieval-inspired world of magic, mermaids, and wyverns. She has been developing the Keepers of Midgate epic since she was in high school. The main storyline has changed little since then, only gaining more clarity and detail as the characters take on a life of their own. The world has grown in its depth of history, culture, and geography, spawning numerous side stories, prequels, and a sequel.

She loves nature, art, and food, which all funnel into her world-building. Her story’s settings span two continents and the sea between, encompassing a diversity of peoples, cultures, and creatures. She is working on a collection of recipes from Midgate, and she loves drawing scenes and characters from the books (although those sketches may never see the light of day). She will never apologize for describing a tree, as she finds trees to be fascinating and far more alive than they get credit for.

When she’s not writing about Midgate, she’s penning fairy tale retellings. She enjoys mixing familiar pieces from many tales together and may one day reveal to you her Tinderbox Princess series.
