Karyne (00:00:07) – Hi fantasy readers. This is Karyne Norton, your fellow book binger, and you are listening to the Finding Fantasy Reads podcast where you can test out a new fantasy story every single week to find your next favorite author.

Today’s story is part one of two, featuring a steampunk fantasy. I haven’t had the chance to read a ton of steampunk, but I’m finding it to be a genre I really enjoy. I’ve also heard it called gaslamp fantasy, but if there’s a difference between the two, I’d love for someone to tell me. Either way, I love the mix of cozy and adventure, so I’m thrilled to be able to share this story with you.

It’s written by E.J. Kitchens, who loves tales of romance, adventure, and happily ever afters, and strives to write such tales herself. When Elizabeth’s not thinking about her stories or traveling to far-off places, she’s editing others’ works, enjoying the beautiful outdoors, or talking about classic books and black and white movies.

Random tangent about black and white movies: When I was growing up, my brother told me that people who dream in color are more creative than people who don’t, and I remember being super scared that maybe I didn’t dream in color, and I couldn’t quite remember if I did. Except then, I remembered a dream I had with skeletons chasing me, and there was definitely red blood on the arrows. I was thrilled.

Fast forward to a year ago, and I discovered an article explaining that most people dream in color now, and that black and white dreams were more of a generational issue resulting from black and white movies, which I found fascinating, even if I also felt a little less special.

Anyway, today you get a mix of narrators, one being myself and the other being that same brother who made me question my creativity, Paeter Frandsen, host of Christian Geek Central. Stick around to the end or check out today’s show notes to see where you can find more from both the author and the narrators. For now, please enjoy Dawn Bringer: Part 1 by E.J. Kitchens.
